Swimmers at a popular spot near Kinsale were left baffled today after a 'no swim sign' was erected at the beach. The sign was put up at Sandycove Beach which is a very popular spot with walkers and swimmers alike. Cork County Council erected the sign banning swimming at the location although Mayor of County Cork Gillian Coughlan has now said the sign will be removed. In response to queries on social media, the Mayor said: "I can confirm that the sign at Sandycove will be removed. Thanks to those who highlighted the anomaly to me. Puzzled locals contacted the council who then told them that the sign would be taken down, less than 12 hours after it went up. The killjoy sign warns against a number of fun activities, everything from no fishing and no swimming to no jumping in the water and we think swinging jellyfish around the gaff. Some of the prohibitions did make sense - locals have long complained about thoughtless dog-walkers letting their pooches poop on the sand and leaving it there. A picture of the bizarre sign was posted on Twitter this evening with people pointing out just how weird it was.
